Rock Valley, Iowa (RI) — FEMA is forwarding $2 million to repair flood damage to the Rock Valley Public Library, and the Rock Valley First Reformed Church is receiving $370,000 for building repairs.

City officials say they may soon learn whether long-awaited FEMA funding will be approved to buy out residential properties swamped by flooding nearly two years ago.

Tom Van Maanen is Rock Valley’s city administrator.

Van Maanen says he’s cautiously optimistic that approval is coming soon.

The project is estimated to cost around $36 million, including buying and demolishing flooded homes in Rock Valley and converting the properties into green space.
