Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council will meet in regular session at 4:30 p.m. this Wednesday afternoon in the council chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center across 9th Street from KIWA Radio.
On their consent agenda are the meeting minutes from the previous meeting, the list of claims, some financial reports, the approval of a student firefighter, the approval of a temporary Liquor License for Top Of Iowa Lucky Wife — a wine slushie vendor — for Celebration Days at the City Park, a resolution adopting a new 28E abreement with Carroll Township for fire protection, a resolution approving a golf course usage agreement for fiscal year 2027, resolutions approving agreements with Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Mid-Sioux Opportunity, the Family Crisis Centers and the Iowa DOT, and the referall to the planning and zoning commission of an easement request. Unless a council member requests that an item be pulled out of the consent agenda to vote on separately, the entire consent agenda will be voted on in a single motion.
The council will consider amending the library board’s terms of office and will consider a resolution approving an engagement agreement for bond and disclosure counsel with Ahlers Cooney. They will also revisit the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) situation as it relates to recent legislative action and the former Pape land. The council is also scheduled to talk about the city park master plan, Children’s World, a Crossroads Pavilion storage building request, the RIDES fiscal year 2027 agreement, and an allocation of nearly $6700 to O’Brien County Economic Development.
In new business, the Sheldon council will hold a public hearing for budget amendment for the fiscal year that is wrapping up; talk about setting a hearing for June 3rd for a potential city revenue waiver for a Trilogy lot, hear about insurance renewals from a Perspective Insurance representative, and hold the first readings of amendments to the water and sewer ordinances.
The council plans to complete the annual city manager evaluation. While City Manager Sam Kooiker has stated that he would like the evaluation to be in open session, it is possible the council may go into closed session for at least part of the evaluation.
The meeting starts at 4:30 p.m. in the council chambers and is available on YouTube.
