Sheldon Teen & Two Passengers Taken To Hospital After Boyden Area Crash

Boyden, Iowa — A Sheldon teen and two passengers in the vehicle she was driving were taken to the hospital after a crash near Boyden on Sunday, June 7th, 2026.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 3:45 p.m., 14-year-old Melina Marcela Hernandez-Sanchez of Sheldon was driving a 2017 Land Rover Discovery westbound on Highway 18, two miles east of Boyden, when she is said to have lost control of the vehicle, which entered the north ditch and struck a tree.

An ambulance took Hernandez-Sanchez and two passengers to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center.

The Land Rover sustained approximately $13,000 in damage.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that the Boyden Fire Department and Boyden Ambulance Squad assisted them with the response to the crash.
