Statewide Iowa (RI) — A special traffic enforcement effort starts this Monday across Iowa, focusing on the state’s Move Over law.

Tony Higgins with the Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force says the law is essential for keeping people safe on busy highways.

Higgins says the original law was modified to add other vehicles.

He adds that videos from around the country show officers nearly being hit during traffic stops.

He says it’s all part of paying attention to your driving and not getting distracted.

Higgins says drivers should think about what it would be like to be stuck along the roadway.

Higgins, who works for the Ankeny Police Department, says officers statewide will be watching for Move Over violations throughout the week. The fine for failing to move over is $210.
