Primghar, Iowa (KUOO) — A Spirit Lake man originally charged with attempted murder in O’Brien County has entered a plea deal.
Court records indicate 33-year-old Jonathan Oldenkamp has pleaded guilty to one count of reckless use of a firearm and two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations. He had initially pleaded not guilty to the charges, but later changed his plea.
He will serve five years on the firearms charge as well as for each assault charge. The sentences for the assault charges will be served concurrently, while the firearms charge will be served consecutively, meaning he’ll serve 10 years in prison.
Oldenkamp was accused of shooting at another vehicle while driving on May 25th of last year on Highway 18 near Hartley. The vehicle that was shot at had six bullet holes, and the driver of the vehicle was struck. The victim was able to get to the Sheldon hospital for treatment.
Court documents also accused Oldenkamp of injuring a deputy and the sheriff as they were trying to get him out of the patrol vehicle at the jail.
