Trucker Injured In Friday Crash Near Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa – A North Carolina trucker was injured in a single vehicle crash that occurred shortly before 8:00 o’clock Friday morning.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the mishap took place on Highway 60, about 1 mile south of Sheldon, when a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia pulling a refrigerated van trailer, driven by 49-year-old Aliki Lamont Simmons, of Whitsett, North Carolina, was northbound on Highway 60 when he lost control of the truck, entered the east ditch and jack-knifed, coming to rest in the east ditch.

Deputies say Simmons was transported by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team (SCAT) to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center for treatment of non-life threating injuries.

Authorities say the Freightliner sustained approximately $25,000 in damage. Simmons was reportedly cited for Failure to Maintain Control.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Sheldon Police Department, Sheldon Fire Department, Sheldon Community Ambulance Team, the Sheldon Emergency Management Agency, the Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Department of Transportation.
