Iowa City, Iowa (RI) — Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says the quarterback situation remains “clearly cloudy” after Saturday’s scrimmage.

Jeremy Hecklinski shined in the Kid’s Day scrimmage. He finished last season as the Hawkeyes’ backup and is competing with Hank Brown for the starting job.

Hecklinski says he brings a big play ability to the offense.

He says they have not been told what will determine who wins the job.

Brown says they have not been told when a decision will be made.

Brown adds that he has been working on creating more big plays.

At Friday’s Media Day, offensive coordinator Tim Lester said he has not ruled out using both quarterbacks in the season opener against Northern Illinois.

Lester says if they decide to use both, the rotation would be scripted.

The Hawkeyes have 19 days to make the decision. They open their season at home on Saturday, September 5th.
