Northwest Iowa Firefighters Kept Busy With Field Fires On Monday

Northwest Iowa — Some areas had rain on Tuesday, but it’s that time of year again. Farmers are in the fields harvesting crops. It’s been a fairly dry summer, so the conditions have been ripe for field fires.

Northwest Iowa fire departments were called to at least five field fires on Monday. Hull firefighters were called to a possible field fire at 310th Street and Ibex Avenue about 1:15 p.m. That’s right about the northeast corner of Hull.

Ireton firefighters were called to the report of a combine fire about 2:20 p.m. Monday afternoon a half a mile south of 500th Street and Fig Avenue. That’s two miles east and three and a half south of Ireton.

The Sioux Center Fire Department was paged to a combine fire a mile west of Hardees and a quarter of a mile north, just north of 390th Street and Grant Avenue, on the west edge of Sioux Center, at about 3:35 p.m.

Ashton firefighters were called to a grass fire at 210th Street and Oak Hill Avenue about 4:15 p.m. That’s about two and a quarter miles north of Ashton.

And firefighters from Rock Valley, Hull, and Sioux Center were called to a combine fire that turned into a standing corn fire a half a mile east of 330th Street and Elmwood Avenue at about 6:10 p.m. Monday evening. That’s about two miles south of Rock Valley.

There were fewer reports of field fires on Tuesday, probably due to the precip, but there was one report of a field fire near Hawarden.
