Barn Roof Damaged In Tuesday Fire Between Boyden And Sheldon

Boyden, Iowa — A barn was damaged in a fire on Tuesday, May 12th, between Sheldon and Boyden.

According to Boyden Fire Chief Chris Starkenburg, about 11:40 a.m., the Boyden Fire Department was called to the report of a barn fire near 320th Street and Lily Avenue, four miles east of Boyden, or three miles west of Sheldon.

The chief says the fire department saw a pile of debris from a building that had been torn down was burning, as were some old wood shingles on a barn. He says they extinguished the burning roof, and then pulled some sheets of steel away and used their thermal imaging camera to make sure the fire was out.

Starkenburg says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be embers from the controlled burn that landed on the wooden shingles of the barn.

Chief Starkenburg reports that the damage was limited to the barn roof.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour.
