Driver Narrowly Misses Colliding With Stopped School Bus Near Archer

Archer, Iowa — A driver narrowly missed hitting a stopped school bus southeast of Archer Thursday afternoon.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, 28-year-old Cody Bucher, of Paullina, was eastbound on 390th Street in a 1989 Pontiac, approaching the rear of a stopped marked school bus with its lights flashing and stop arm extended. Bucher reportedly told deputies that he was exhausted and had been up for more than twenty-four hours.  Deputies say Bucher told them that he didn’t see the bus until the last second and swerved to avoid striking it. Bucher’s car narrowly missed colliding with the bus, according to the accident report, and entered the south ditch.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Damage to Bucher’s car was estimated at $500.

Bucher was reportedly charged with Unlawful Passing of a School Bus, Failure to Maintain Control and Failure to provide Proof of Financial Liability.
