Hartley Woman Injured In Collision With Deer

Clay County, Iowa — A Hartley woman was taken to the hospital after her SUV struck a deer Tuesday morning.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reports that the accident happened around 7:15 Tuesday morning in the 1000 mile of Highway 18 in western Clay County.

Deputies say a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 59-year-old Valerie Moermond of Hartley was eastbound on Highway 18 and collided with a deer that was crossing the roadway. Deputies say the vehicle’s airbags deployed, causing minor injuries to Moermond, who was transported to the Spencer Hospital.

Authorities estimate the damage to Moermond’s Chevy at seven-thousand-dollars.
