Lester, Iowa — A old outbuilding was damaged in a fire on Thursday, May 23, 2019, near Lester.
According to Lester Fire Chief Morris Metzger, shortly before 7:00 p.m., the Lester Fire Department was called to the report of a garage fire at 2350 Iowa Highway 9, a little over half a mile east of Lester.
The chief says the fire department saw smoke as they approached the scene. He says the property owner had it mostly out with a garden hose by the time they got there, they just put some water on some smoldering spots. He says the building hadn’t been used in several decades.
Metzger says that when the Lester Fire Department is called for a structure fire, the next closest department is also paged. In this case that was the Larchwood Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.
Chief Metzger reports that there was minimal damage.
He says about 12 firefighters responded and were on scene for about a half hour.
