Rock Valley, Iowa — A business building was damaged after some insulation got hot and the fire department was called on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, in Rock Valley.
According to Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis, at about 9:45 a.m., the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to the report of smoke from the roof at Town & Country Implement on Rock Valley’s west side.
The chief says the fire department saw hot spots in the shop ceiling. He says it’s a higher metal ceiling with a metal roof and the insulation between was smoldering in multiple spots. He said they had to tear some of the ceiling down and pull the hot insulation out. He says they didn’t even have to spray any water, as the building is a metal building with a metal frame. He says their thermal imaging camera was very beneficial in knowing where the hot spots were that they needed to take care of.
Eshuis says no injuries were reported.
The fire department was assisted by the Hull and Sioux Center fire departments. The Sioux Center firefighters responded with their aerial truck.
He says the cause of the fire was probably related to a heater with a chimney going through the roof.
Chief Eshuis reports that there was minor damage, but that they will have replace the sheeting and insulation and redo some electrical work.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for roughly two hours.
