Roofs Of Four Buildings Damaged In Fire

Granville, Iowa — The roofs of four buildings were damaged in a fire on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, near Granville.

According to Granville Fire Chief Karl Kellen, about 2:30 p.m., the Granville Fire Department was called to the report of a roof of a shed on fire at 4819 Nettle Avenue, four miles east and two south of Granville.

The chief says the fire department saw the roofs of four outbuildings on fire as they approached the scene. He says they put out the fires with a blanket of foam, which promptly froze in place. He says that actually helped the foam to stay put, and kept the fire out.

Kellen says no injuries were reported to people, pets, or livestock.

According to Kellen, the Paullina Fire Department responds with the Granville Fire Department to fires like this. He says they also called for the Marcus Fire Department for manpower and water.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be sparks from a tree burning pile. He says the wind changed and the sparks fell on the roofs.

Chief Kellen reports that there was minimal damage to the roofs.

He says they used about 2,000 gallons of water to fight the fire, and the roughly 25-30 firefighters who responded were on scene for about two hours.
