Sioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center man has been sentenced to two years in prison following his conviction for 2nd Offense Domestic Abuse Assault.
According to a release from the Sioux County Attorney’s Office, the case against 56-year-old David Wayne Dereus stemmed from an incident that happened last month in Sioux Center. The release says that on April 23rd, authorities received a report of a woman with blood on her face screaming and asking for neighbors to help her at the Country Home Motel and Campground of Sioux Center. Authorities say further investigation revealed Dereus had physically assaulted the victim; and they were in a domestic relationship together. According to authorities, Dereus was previously sentenced for a separate domestic abuse assault in Lyon County this past December.
Sioux County authorities say Dereus was sentenced to two years in prison in the Sioux County case, which is to run consecutively to the 30-day jail sentence imposed in Lyon County for a probation violation on his prior domestic conviction.
