Three Arrested For Felony OWI In O’Brien County Over The Weekend

O’Brien County, Iowa — Law enforcement officers in O’Brien County had a rather busy holiday weekend, with a trio of men arrested in various parts of the county on charges of Felony OWI.

The first arrest was about 1:40 am on Sunday, when a Sheldon Police Officer made a traffic stop for dark window tint and the registered owner of the vehicle having a license status of barred. According to court records, as the officer approached the car, he could allegedly smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Police say the man exhibited signs of intoxication and failed preliminary sobriety testing.  The driver, who authorities identify as 33-year-old Brenton Nathaniel Delaney of Sheldon was arrested and charged with 3rd Offense OWI (Operating While Impaired), which is a Class D Felony. He was taken to the O’Brien County Jail.

Then about an hour and a half later, an O’Brien County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a Chevy pickup at Highway 59 and Tanager Avenue, about two miles west of Sutherland, and placed the driver, 35-year-old Benton Donald Montgomery of Calumet under arrest for 3rd Offense OWI, a Class D Felony, and taken to the O’Brien County Jail at Primghar.

The third arrest of the weekend came shortly after midnight Monday morning, when an O’Brien County Deputy stopped a Chevy Malibu driven by Bobby Lee Benoit of Primghar on Highway 59 at Primghar. Benoit was placed under arrest for 3rd Offense OWI, a Class D Felony and transported to the O’Brien County Jail at Primghar.
