Three Taken To Hospital After Accident

Boyden, Iowa — Three people were taken to the hospital after an accident on Sunday, January 1 near Boyden.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 7:55 p.m., 85-year-old John Doorenbos of Boyden was driving a 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis eastbound on Highway 18. They report that 44-year-old Gayle Vander Plaats of Boyden was driving a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan westbound on Highway 18.

The report states that Doorenbos crossed the center of the roadway and struck Vander Plaats.

It also says that 44-year-old Dayton Ten Haken of Hull was driving 2016 Ford Edge and struck debris from the accident on the roadway.

The Sheldon and Boyden ambulances took Doorenbos, Vander Plaats and a passenger in the Vander Plaats Dodge to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

The Doorenbos Mercury was said to have sustained about $10,000 in damage. The Vander Plaats Dodge sustained about $12,000 in damage. The Ten Haken Ford sustained about $2,000 in damage.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the Boyden Fire Department, Boyden Ambulance crew and Sheldon Community Ambulance Team assisted with the accident.
