Inwood, Iowa — A West Lyon third grade student has died as the victim of a car accident on Friday morning near Beloit.
The Iowa State Patrol reports that about 7:30 a.m., A West Lyon school bus was stopped to pick up students on A50, about four miles southwest of Inwood when a vehicle struck it from behind. The passenger in the vehicle, 9-year-old Jessica Yeaman of Inwood, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Patrol says the driver, seventeen-year-old Rachel Gapinski, was transported to a local hospital.
West Lyon Superintendent Shawn Kreman says all students on the bus were safe. He says they have grief counselors available at school for staff and students as many are struggling with this event and the counselors will be available into next week.

The State Patrol did not provide any more information on the victim who died, but West Lyon Superintendent Shawn Kreman says they were a West Lyon third-grader.
The Patrol says the driver, also a juvenile, was transported to a local hospital.
The Iowa State Patrol reports they are still investigating the crash. Names are being withheld pending notification.
