Carnes, Iowa — A Sioux City woman and a Fremont, Nebraska man were injured in a two-vehicle crash late Wednesday afternoon south of Orange City near Carnes.
According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, a 2003 Peterbilt semi-tractor pulling a tank trailer, driven by 63-year-old Larry Vanburen of Fremont was westbound on Highway 60. A 2004 Buick LeSabre, driven by 21-year-old Mindi Wikstrom of Sioux City was eastbound on Highway 60. Deputies say Wikstrom crossed the median on Jackson Avenue and began driving north when the two vehicles collided in the intersection.
Wikstrom and Vanburen were both transported by the Orange City Ambulance to the Orange City Hospital, with Wikstrom later being airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City for further treatment of serious injuries, according to authorities.
Deputies say the Peterbilt sustained approximately $12,000 in damage. The Buick sustained approximately $9,000 in damage.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Orange City Police Department, Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Orange City Ambulance, Orange City Fire Department and Orange City Rescue.
Authorities say the crash remains under investigation.
