Northwest Iowa — Voters from across the state of Iowa went to the polls Tuesday to select their party’s slate of candidates in this November’s General Election.
Here are the unofficial results from Tuesday’s Iowa Primary Election:
Republican Races
- Governor’s Race — Five candidates were pitted against one another: 4th District Congressman and Hull resident Randy Feenstra, Zach Lahn, Eddie Andrews, Brad Sherman and Adam Steen. With 98 of 99 Iowa counties reporting, Lahn leads Feenstra 80,765 votes to 79,113, giving him more than the 35% required to claim the race outright.
- U.S. Senate — Representative Ashley Hinson defeated northwest Iowan Jim Carlin for the nomination to fill the seat being vacated by Joni Ernst.
- Auditor of State — Lt. Governor Chris Cournoyer defeated challenger Abigail Maas for the GOP nomination.
- State Senate District 3 — Incumbent Lynn Evans defeated Shane Bellefy.
- State Senate District 5 — Incumbent Dave Rowley narrowly defeated Stacy Besch.
- State Representative District 5 — Keith Glienke won handily over Michael Schnoes.
Democratic Races
- U.S. Senate — Josh Turek defeated Zach Wahls for the nomination.
- U.S. House District 4 — Dave Dawson outdistanced Stephanie Steiner and Ashley WolfTornabane.
Those were the only contested races of interest to Northwest Iowa Democrats in Tuesday’s election.
What’s Next
Results of Tuesday’s Primary Election won’t become official until they’re canvassed by the Boards of Supervisors in each of Iowa’s 99 counties.
