Primghar, Iowa — The Primghar Fire Department recently received a grant to help them keep tabs on what may be in the air at emergency scenes.

Primghar Fire officials tell us they recently received a $2500 grant from Black Hills Energy for two new four-gas air monitors. They tell us they use the devices to detect invisible, deadly atmospheric hazards during emergency responses. We’re told the devices provide critical, real-time data to prevent explosions, avoid oxygen-deficient environments, and determine when it is safe to remove breathing gear.

Primghar firefighters say they are thankful for the opportunity to improve their equipment, and say grants like these allow local fire departments to stay current with ever-evolving technology and safety standards, allowing them to more safely and efficiently serve their communities.

Black Hills Energy serves approximately 160,000 customers in Iowa, including gas customers in Paullina and Primghar in our area, as well as in several nearby communities in Dickinson, Clay, and Cherokee counties.
