High-Speed Chase Involves Area LEOs From Both Sides Of State Line

Spirit Lake, Iowa — An Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputy was one of the officers from four agencies on either side of the Iowa/Minnesota border to be involved in a high speed chase that began in Spirit Lake early Thursday morning.

According to the Spirit Lake Police Department, shortly after 3:00 Thursday morning a Spirit Lake Police Officer allegedly observed a car traveling westbound on Highway 9 &71 near the courthouse at 71 mph in a 25 zone. Authorities say the car fled when the officer attempted to pull it over.

Authorities say the pursuit reached speeds in excess of 115 mph through Dickinson and Osceola Counties in Iowa, as well as Nobles and Jackson Counties in Minnesota, before coming to rest in Jackson County, Minnesota. Police say the driver was then taken into custody without incident.

Spirit Lake Police say the car’s driver, 28-year-old Klint Wyatt King of Algona is charged with:
Felony Eluding
1st Offense OWI
Reckless Driving
Failure to Obey a Stop Sign
Speeding
Driving While License Suspended
Failure to Use Headlamps When Required
Driving on the Wrong Side of a Two Lane Highway
No Insurance
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Spirit Lake Police were assisted by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Worthington Police Department and the Jackson (MN) County Sheriff’s Office.
