Hundreds of Tires Go Up In Smoke Near Inwood

Inwood, Iowa — Hundreds of tires were destroyed in a fire on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, near Inwood.

According to Inwood Fire Chief Troy Van Beek, at about 3:20 p.m., the Inwood Fire Department was called to the report of a a controlled burn going out of control at 1446 Highway 18, about four miles west of Inwood.

The chief says the fire department saw a large garbage pile and a large pile of old tires on fire as they approached the scene, which used to be a salvage yard. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.

Van Beek says no injuries were reported.

Chief Van Beek reports that hundreds of tires were destroyed in the blaze, but he couldn’t give a more exact number.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
