Larchwood, Iowa — A Larchwood man has been arrested following an investigation into the attempted burglary of a Larchwood apartment.
Lyon County authorities say they were summoned around 8:00 Friday morning (April 10th) to the report of an attempted burglary.
Deputies say that while investigating the incident, the resident of a neighboring apartment, 34-year-old Dustin Lee Schlenker, invited them into his apartment to search for any suspects. While conducting the search for suspects, deputies say they saw a scoped rifle sitting on Schlenker’s bed. Lyon County authorities say that Schlenker has a prior felony conviction, and is therefore prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
After executing a search warrant on Schlenker’s apartment, authorities reportedly discovered ammunition for the rifle.
According to court records, Schlenker faces two counts of Felon in Possession of a Firearm or offensive weapon. One count for the rifle, and one count for the ammunition.
Online court records indicate that Schlenker was taken to the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids, and later released on bail. He’s set to be in court for a Preliminary Hearing on April 21st. The charges against Schlenker are Class D Felonies.
