UPDATE: Over-Height Load Knocks Down Power, Cable Lines Saturday Afternoon

Sheldon, Iowa — No injuries were reported Saturday afternoon when a truck struck a powerline and a cable TV line on 16th Street in Sheldon.

According to the Sheldon Police Department, the mishap occurred during the noon hour Saturday when a 2005 Kenworth tractor and trailer, driven by 39-year-old Matthew Dykstra of Hospers, was westbound on 16th Street when it hit an overhead powerline. Police say Dykstra told them that he braked hard, causing his unsecured load to shift and collide with the trailer. As the truck skidded to a stop, police say it struck an overhead cable TV line.

Damage to Dykstra’s semi was estimated at $5,000, while damage to the MidAmerican Energy powerline was estimated at $750 and damage to the Cable TV line, which is owned by Premier Communications, is estimated at $350.

Sheldon Police were assisted at the scene by troopers from the Iowa State Patrol, and Officers from the Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division.
