Sheldon Fire Company Has Busy Weekend

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Fire Company was kept hopping over the weekend.

Sheldon Assistant Fire Chief Randy Harms says firefighters were called out at about 4:45 Saturday afternoon to a call at Village Northwest Unlimited. Earlier in the day, Sheldon firefighters had conducted a Training Fire of an old house at the Village. Harms says Saturday afternoon’s call was for a flare-up of that fire. Crews were back at the station at 5:02pm. Shortly before 10:00 Saturday night firefighters were summoned back to that location to deal with a second flare-up. That time they were on scene for about 45-minutes.

Harms says fire crews were summoned to Northwest Iowa Community College twice on Sunday, responding to a commercial fire alarm. The first call came in at 4:29 Sunday morning. Firefighters determined that the alarm had been caused by a possible bad sensor, and turned the building over to NCC Maintenance, according to Harms. They were on scene for about 45-minutes. Then Sunday evening, fire crews were called back to NCC at about 6:45pm for a commercial fire alarm. This time, Harms says, it was determined that a detector had been wet, and malfunctioned. Crews were back at the station around 7:30 Sunday evening.
