Sheldon Fire Company Responds To Three Calls Monday Afternoon

Sheldon, Iowa — A grass fire was reported on Monday, June 27, 2022, near Sheldon. And firefighters would respond to two more calls before getting back to the station.

According to Sheldon Fire Assistant Chief Brad Hindt, at about 1:45 p.m., the Sheldon Fire Company was called to the report of a ditch fire near McKinley Avenue & 350th Street, about a mile south of Highway 60 on McKinley.

The assistant chief says they put out the fire with the truck’s deck gun.

Hindt says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be something hot from a passing vehicle, as while they were finishing with that fire, they were called to a similar fire another mile south on McKinley Avenue.

Assistant Chief Hindt reports that about 200 feet of ditch grass burned, along with a little bit of a soybean field.

After the second ditch fire call, he says they responded to the report of a vehicle fire north of Sheldon. Hindt tells us it was near Ritter. He says when they got there, they found it was just an overheated pickup, and there was no fire.

He says after responding to all three calls, the firefighters finished up at about 3:45 p.m.
