UPDATE: Sutherland Man Jailed After Sunday Morning Pursuit That Began In Osceola County

Northwest Iowa — On Sunday morning the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle. An Osceola County Deputy responded and the vehicle, a blue Dodge Journey fled the area, attempting to elude the Deputy, according to a press release from the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the vehicle pulled into a farm place just north of the O’Brien/Osceola County line on Oak Hill Ave. in an attempt to hide from law enforcement.

An O’Brien County Deputy pulled into the farm place and the driver drove through the ditch, causing significant damage to the Journey. Deputies say the driver exited the ditch, striking the Osceola County Deputy’s vehicle.

The driver fled south into O’Brien County on Oak Hill Ave. Law enforcement pursued the vehicle into O’Brien County. Authorities say during the pursuit the Clay County Sheriff’s Office notified the deputies that the vehicle matched the description of a stolen vehicle from Spencer.

The deputies followed the vehicle through O’Brien County and it was eventually stopped on the north side of Germantown on Oak Hill Ave. Deputies say the driver refused to show his hands or unlock the driver’s door. A deputy broke the driver’s side window and placed the red targeting laser of his Taser on the driver. The driver then complied, exiting the vehicle and was taken to the ground and handcuffed.

The deputies confirmed the Dodge Journey was stolen from Spencer. The driver was identified by authorities as  24-year-old Bradley Tyler Kots of Sutherland.

Authorities say Kots was taken into custody, booked into the O’Brien County Jail, on charges including: Theft in the 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony, since the car he was allegedly driving was reportedly stolen from Spencer; Felony Eluding, a Class D Felony; and Possession of Methamphetamine, a Serious Misdemeanor, as well as a laundry list of traffic charges.

In addition, Court records say Kots was charged in connection with the theft of a car from the Dollar General store in Sheldon, on December 8th. That car was recovered in Worthington, Minnesota the next day. Authorities say that, during an interview by Worthington Police, Kots allegedly admitted stealing the car from Sheldon. He was reportedly arrested on that charge of Theft in the 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony, following Sunday morning’s pursuit.
