Vehicle, Cornstalk Bales Destroyed In Fire — Two Departments Extinguish It

George, Iowa — A a vehicle, cornstalk bales, and some grass was destroyed in a fire on Friday, November 6, 2020, near George.

According to George Fire Chief Bill Sprock, about 2:55 p.m., the George Fire Department was called to the report of a field/bale/vehicle fire at 3710 200th Street, two miles west, a mile north, and another mile west of George.

Sprock says no injuries were reported. He says the fire department was assisted by Rock Rapids firefighters and the George Emergency Medical Service, or GEMS.

He says the fire started when embers from a days-old burning pile apparently flared up in the wind. He says it was a lucky thing that there were no surrounding corn fields, or it could have been a lot worse.

Chief Sprock reports that the bales, the grass, and the vehicle were all a total loss.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
