Ireton, Iowa — A Hawarden man was arrested on a felony OWI charge early on Saturday, June 13th, 2026.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office tells us they arrested 47-year-old Severiano Batalla Castillo of Hawarden after a traffic stop on Garfield Avenue near Ireton. Upon further investigation, Deputies believe that Batalla-Castillo was impaired. Deputies also allege that Batalla-Castillo’s driver’s license was suspended and that he was operating without an ignition interlock device.
Batalla Castillo was arrested and taken to the Sioux County Jail, where he was charged with Operating While Intoxicated Third Offense, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He also faces misdemeanor charges of driving while suspended and operating without an ignition interlock device.
Sheriff’s officials remind us that a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
