Sanborn, Iowa — A Sanborn man, who had been the subject of a long term criminal investigation, was arrested on felony and misdemeanor drug-related charges Saturday afternoon (November 17th).
According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, their deputies arrested Morris Wayne Stofferan at his rural Sanborn residence, on an O’Brien County warrant charging Ongoing Criminal Conduct, which is a Class B Felony.
Officials say the arrest stemmed from an investigation that began in 2014. According to authorities Stofferan is accused of selling methamphetamine to a confidential source on five occasions between November, 2014 and November, 2017. He is also accused of selling methamphetamine to a confidential source in Clay County twice during 2015.
According to O’Brien County officials, Stofferan was allegedly involved in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine that involved transportation and distribution of large quantities of meth between 2015 and 2017. Officials say that, at the time of his arrest, Stofferan was allegedly in possession of approximately 4 grams of meth. He also reportedly had $651 in cash on his person that was seized by deputies. He was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, which is a Serious Misdemeanor.
Deputies say Stofferan had his initial court appearance before a magistrate, and was released on a $1-thousand unsecured appearance bond on the Possession of Meth charge. The magistrate also set bond at $25-thousand on the Ongoing Criminal Conduct charge. At last report, Stofferan was still being held in the O’Brien County Jail.
If convicted, Stofferan faces a prison sentence of up to 25-years on the Ongoing Criminal Conduct charge.
