Paullina, Iowa — A Friday evening call to the O’Brien County Communications Center requesting help to get into his home, ended with the caller in jail on a felony charge.
According to court records, when an officer arrived at the Paullina home of 62-year-old Douglas Ebel, Ebel’s wife exited the home to talk with the officer. During the conversation between the officer and Mrs. Ebel, court records indicate that Mr. Ebel ramped the curb in his pickup, nearly hitting two trees. Ebel then reportedly walked toward the house, as the officer described it, “walking in an unsteady manner.”
According to the officer, once Mr. Ebel approached her she could smell alcohol on his breath. Court records indicate that Mr. Ebel refused field sobriety tests, or a PBT (Preliminary Breath Test).
Ebel was then placed under arrest, but once arriving at the O’Brien County Jail, agreed to take a breathalyzer test, which allegedly indicated that his blood alcohol content was well above the legal limit.
Ebel is charged with 3rd Offense OWI, which is a Class D Felony.
